Welcome to College of Human Ecology!

 
The College of Human Ecology is based on the concept of “holistic education” and the study and research domain includes entire human ecosystem, such as behavioral science and experimental science which are close related to our livelihood. The main goal of the college is to enhance people’s quality of life. We focus on the comprehensive development of our students in various subjects, such as the ethics, the intellect, the physique, social skills and aesthetics; and we actively promote the concept and sense of ethics, science, art, productivity, and modernization.
 
Our college has put in great effort in the research and promotion of human ecology, and in cultivation of human ecology related specialists. The balanced development in two dimensions, one is to adequately develop the characteristic of each department, and the other is making adjustment to change of time, integrating department resources, enhancing productivity, achieving the goal of innovation and promoting industry-university cooperation.
 
        The College of Human Ecology consists of departments as below: undergraduate and graduate schools in Family Studies and Child Development, which is dedicated to research of healthiness family system and the cultivation of consultants in the fields of children education, children welfare, family education and marriage; undergraduate and graduate schools in Food Science, Nutrition and Nutraceutical Biotechnology, which combines food, nutrition and biotech domain to help people have a healthy lifestyle; undergraduate and graduate schools in Social Work have integrated social resources and help with individuals and families. The graduates of the department have become top workforce in social work field and serve in government, hospital, social welfare organization and foundation; undergraduate school in Restaurant and Institutional Management cultivate professional specialists in food and drink industry, which promote high quality and healthy food culture. The department cooperates with industrial vendors and has won various national awards; undergraduate and graduate schools in Music have cultivated many fine music performers. The orchestra and musicologists in the department has performed internationally and received great evaluation. In addition, we also realize the trend of aging society in Taiwan and established the “ Gerontology ResearchCenter”.
 
All of students and instructors from the College of Human Ecology have the sincere belief of improving and enriching mankind’s lifestyle through comprehensive developments. We expect ourselves to truly carry out the indication of our school name “Shih Chien” (literally means Praxis, which is originated from Greek philosopher Aristotle) – to achieve the goal of pursuing sincerity and righteousness with practical action.

Violinist Hui-Kang OuYang

      Hui-Kang OuYang enjoys his career as a prominent Taiwanese violinist, conductor and pedagogue. He has given acclaimed concerts in America, France, German, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Japan, China and his home town Taiwan. He is a frequent soloist and conductor with orchestras such as National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble con brio Würzburg, Taipei Chamber Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, Taipei Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra, Yuyun Symphony Orchestra. With passion for contemporary music, OuYang has premiered many compositions by native composers, among them the most significant were the opera Hsu Hsian and Lady Bai by Zhi-Yun Guo, and with Taipei String Quartet, chamber works by prominent composers Duen Tai, Hwang-Long Pan and Tai-Xiang Li. He has given the European premiere of Taiwanese composer Tyzen Hsiao’s Violin Concerto and conducted various Taiwanese orchestral works in Japan.

Dr. OuYang holds degrees in violin performance from Mannes College of Music and State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is currently a professor of violin, dean of School of Human Ecology, and conductor of University Symphony Orchestra at Shih Chien University in Taipei. Starting 2007, he serves as the advisor of the National Project for Music Talent; a plan sponsored by the Council for Cultural Affair, Taiwan, and has successfully promoted young Taiwanese violinists to gain world recognition. Due to his excellent achievements, OuYang has been awarded “The Honorary Alumnus Award” from National Taiwan University of Arts, and “Outstanding Professor Award” from Shih Chien University.
Hui-Kang OuYang plays a precious violin made by J.B. Guadagnini in 1785, provided by CHIMEI Culture Foundation.
